BFG9060 – 68060 CPU Accelerator Board for Amiga 3000(T)/4000(T)

CHF 319.00

Picture AmigaOS on your Amiga 3000 or 4000 responding instantly, with 128 MB of Fast RAM for everything you run. The BFG9060 is a 68060 accelerator for the A3000(T) and A4000(T); at 50 MHz, SysInfo rates it about 8-times as fast as an A4000/030 or a stock A3000, and about 2-times as fast as an A4000/040.

Description

The BFG9060 is a Motorola 68060-based CPU accelerator for the Amiga 3000(T) and 4000(T), brand new and professionally built.

  • Available with an MC68040RC25 CPU (FPU+MMU), an MC68LC060RC50 (MMU) revision 4 or an MC68060RC50 (FPU+MMU) revision 6 (mask 71E41J)
  • 128 MB of very fast on-board Fast RAM (supports DMA and move16 bursts)
  • Boot ROM that handles CPUs with an FPU without the need for a special Kickstart ROM (plug and play)
  • Overclocking feature, configured by on-board jumpers (75 MHz or 100 MHz, MC68060RC50 revision 6 CPU only, in the A4000/A4000T only; no guarantee of a stable system)
  • Optional floppy disk with the 68060 library files
  • Optional LTC2990 voltage and temperature monitor (accessible via an I²C board, e.g. the CPLDICY)
  • Optional heat sink/fan modules (low-profile and high-profile)
  • 2-year warranty in case of defect (no warranty for overclocked CPUs)

CPU Options (68060)

The low-cost MC68LC060 CPU has an MMU but no FPU. The vast majority of Amiga software does not need an FPU. If you choose the 68LC060 CPU, I recommend installing software in 020/030 mode when the installer asks and offers no 060 option without FPU. This installs the software package without FPU support, but with the full 060 speed.

With the full-featured MC68060RC50 CPU, which has an integrated MMU and FPU, you do not need to pay special attention when installing software. The MC68060RC50 revision 6 is the latest and most optimised version Motorola ever produced. Using the BFG9060 overclocking feature, revision 6 can in most cases run at 75 MHz or even 100 MHz, but only in the A4000 desktop and tower models. However, I cannot guarantee a stable system with overclocked CPUs and recommend the nominal 50 MHz. Besides revision 6, there are also revision 1 and 5 versions of the MC68060RC50 with MMU+FPU. They run quite a bit hotter and are not suitable for overclocking, and active cooling is recommended for them.

Library Files (68060)

To run any 68060 CPU on your Amiga, you need the 68060 library files installed in your LIBS: folder. If you use Amiga OS 3.1.4 or 3.2.x, install the 68060 library files that come with the Amiga OS disks (start the installer disk and select “CPU Libraries” to install). If you use the older Amiga OS 3.0/3.1, I recommend the Mu680x0Libs package on aminet.net.

Kickstart ROM

You need at least Kickstart 3.1 to run the BFG9060; I recommend Kickstart 3.2 or newer. The dual Kickstart ROM 1.4/2.0 in the old A3000D does not work with the BFG9060.
